About Crema Lab

Crema Lab is an independent review site focused on home espresso. We exist because most "best espresso machine" articles online assign star ratings to machines the writer never used and quote prices that haven't been checked in months.

Our methodology

The site is built around two rules:

  1. Specs and prices come from the manufacturer, with a date stamp. Every product page lists the MSRP and the date we last verified it on the maker's website. If that date is more than a few weeks old, check the live retailer price before buying.
  2. We test products and share what we found. Reviews include measured numbers from our own kitchen — shot timing, retention, noise — alongside the manufacturer-verified specs, so you can see where the spec sheet matches reality and where it doesn't.

Where the manufacturer's own product page shows a real owner-feedback signal (for example, the average review score on Baratza's site for the Encore ESP), we surface it on the review instead of burying it — even when our own experience was better than the aggregate.

How we make money

Crema Lab is built to participate in affiliate programs (Amazon Associates first, specialty retailers second). When the site is fully launched and an Associates tag is in place, clicking a link and buying a product earns us a small commission at no cost to you.

We do not accept paid placements, sponsored reviews, or product-for-coverage arrangements. If a machine has a documented problem, we say so — even if it pays the highest commission. See our full affiliate disclosure.

Who's behind this

Crema Lab is a small independent project. We are not industry insiders or barista champions; we are buyers trying to publish the kind of espresso buying guide we wished existed.

Update policy

Prices are re-verified at each significant edit and the date is shown on every product page. When the underlying source data in src/data/products.json changes, every page that references that product updates automatically.
